Heartfelt congratulations for winning the Rector election at UMB, Hans Fredrik! You have three demanding years ahead of you and I wish you best of luck and support from UMB in executing the role of Rector.
You can not transform UMB into a new university together with NVH on your own; we are all a part of the process. UMB will support you as well as challenge you along the way; as I hope you will do to all of us who belong to the UMB community.
UMB: please remember the words: SUPPORT and CHALLENGE. It works both ways in a scientific community. We have academic freedom, but also academic duty. For those of you interested: read the book by the former President of Stanford, Donald Kennedy: "Academic Duty" (Harvard University Press, 1997 ISBN 0-674-00223-7). I read his book on my way to Norway and visited Harvard yesterday, on my long diverted trip back to Minnesota. A truly impressive place.

Takk for at stilte til valg, Trine. Alle tre kandidatene fikk mange stemmer hvilket viser at vi ved UMB har mange gode mennesker som tør å stå fram og ta en utfordring på vegne av den institusjonen vi er så glad i.
